Project Background

The China–Zambia Friendship Farm, located in Lusaka, Zambia, plays an important role in supporting local agricultural production and food security. However, prolonged drought conditions in the region significantly reduced hydropower generation, resulting in frequent power shortages and unreliable grid supply.

As a result, critical farming activities such as irrigation, water pumping, and daily operations faced increasing challenges. To ensure business continuity and maintain agricultural productivity, the farm required a reliable and flexible energy solution capable of operating independently from the unstable grid.

To address these challenges, the project deployed a 41 kWp solar PV system, a 50kW/100kWh SAJ CHS2 all-in-one energy storage system, and a 17 kVA generator. By integrating solar power, battery storage, and backup generation into a single intelligent platform, the solution provides stable and uninterrupted power for essential agricultural operations.

The intelligent hybrid architecture minimizes generator runtime, reducing diesel consumption, maintenance requirements, and overall operating expenses.

Enhanced Resilience Against Extreme Weather
With integrated solar, battery, and generator support, the system provides a dependable energy supply during drought-related power shortages and other adverse conditions, ensuring uninterrupted agricultural activities.
